The Des Moines Menace announced today the addition of the USL’s Super-20 team to their line up of teams. The Super 20 which replaces the U19 division of the Super Y League will start play in June with about ten games. This team will be the reserve team to the Menace PDL team and will have a lot of local flavor. All home games will be played prior to PDL games this summer at Waukee Stadium starting at 5pm.
In the Midwest division they will face the Chicago Fire, Chicago Magic, Mequon United (Indiana), Indiana Invaders and Kalamazoo Kingdom (Michigan).
The head coach is yet to be announced but PDL head coach Casey Mann had this to say. “It is a great opportunity for the local players to display their talent and show they can compete at a National level.”
Championship matches will be held in Florida at the end of the summer. This team will see advancement of players which could potentially move up to the PDL team. It will showcase the top talented graduating youth and elite players from ages 17-20.
"The nice thing about it is as they develop, we can move them up," Menace general manager Alan Oatsvall said. "It's a great opportunity for players who are not quite there or were not recruited by the PDL team. It's a chance for them to show what they can do." |
