Super Y-League (SYL) is specifically designed for elite players who aspire to compete at the highest levels of soccer. In fact, many SYL teams are affiliated with the professional, national and international clubs that will one day house their current athletes. Despite being relatively new on the scene, it is already recognized as a legitimate step along the path to a professional career.Along with excellent coaching and high level competition, there is now another reason to consider participation on a Super Y team -- its relationship to the Olympic Development Program (ODP). ODP is run by the U.S. National Team with the intent of identifying players with high potential. Individuals selected for participation in ODP will receive training designed to prepare them for international competition. In the past, the only way a player could be considered for selection was by participating in open tryouts conducted by state associations. Now there is another avenue available, playing on a Super Y team. Players who particpate in the national youth league have the opportunity to be evaluated over the course of the season rather than for a few hours as they would be in a traditional tryout setting. The Des Moines Menace encourages qualified players to compete in both ODP and Super Y League.

The following contains information on the Olympic Development (ODP) programs of the Super Y-League. This information provides the insights, logistical structure and plans for the development of these ODP programs to identify players for United States Soccer Federation National Team Programs.

This program was implemented in the 2003 season and will continue in the summer of 2007.

Creation of a successful Super Y team requires a strong committment from players and their families. Practice and play is intense and coaches institute a professionalized environment. In addition, each season involves at least five road trips, and the time and cost associated with travel.  However, for talented and hard-working athletes, there is no doubt that SYL is an investment in themselves and their future on the field.  Positions on Menace Super Y teams are available by invitation only.  Several times a year, players have the opportunity to attend open tryouts for evaluation.  Times and locations will be posted here as they are determined.
