WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Saturday, June 25, 2016 – Hat-trick hero Danielle Puddefoot and the high-octane Des Moines Menace defeated the WSA North Stars 9-0 today at Valley Stadium.
Also scoring in this lopsided exhibition win were Nicole Pearson (twice), Haley Helverson, Camila Parra, Alyce Correia and Sarah Brandt.
Coming off a two-goal, two-assist performance in yesterday’s 5-0 win over the Winnipeg side, Whitney Sharpe assisted tonight’s first three scores. She set up Pearson in the 26th minute, and, right after that, Puddefoot in the 27th and 30th minutes.
Puddefoot’s third goal was the first of four Menace scores after halftime. Brandt, who scored twice yesterday, laid off a great ball that Puddefoot blasted home into the side netting. The hat trick was part of a birthday celebration for Puddefoot, who turned 24 yesterday.
“Regardless of the opposition, we’ll keep it going,” said Puddefoot. “Even if we have two or three goals, we want more. We want to score as many goals as we can.”
The Menace ladies have piled up a 12-0 scoring advantage in a 3-0-0 start to the Women’s Premier Soccer League season. Next Saturday, they’ll look to keep it going against the Chicago Red Stars. They travel to Oak Brook, Ill., for a shot at the WPSL’s defending champions.
“It’s a massive game, and we’re looking forward to it,” Puddefoot said. “We want to go in confident. We’re working as a team, we’re working for each other, we’re working collectively. There’s no individuals on this team.”
WOMAN of the MATCH: Danielle Puddefoot for her second hat trick in a Menace uniform. The British striker did all the scoring in Des Moines’ 3-0, season-closing win at Minnesota last year.
UP NEXT: The Menace travels to Chicago next Saturday for a 3 p.m. clash with the Chicago Red Stars Reserves. Des Moines’ next home action is July 9 against Quad City.
