WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Wednesday, June 15, 2016 – Des Moines Menace captain Leigh Veidman has earned a spot on the Premier Development League Team of the Week, announced by the PDL today.
Scoring in three straight matches, Veidman has helped pull the Menace (5-0-1, 16 points) even with Chicago (5-2-1) for a share of first place in the Heartland Division.
On Friday and Saturday, Veidman provided the game-winners against the arch-rival Thunder Bay Chill. Last night, his early goal – which came a minute after assisting Jack Griffin to open the scoring in the 13th minute – propelled the Menace to a 6-0 win over host WSA Winnipeg.
A native of Liverpool, England, Veidman has ties to a couple Nebraska colleges. He is a graduate of Bellevue and an assistant coach at Midland. In his second season with the Menace, he is a player-coach for a team seeking its third straight division championship.
This is the Menace’s second weekly honor of 2016. Goalkeeper Nico Campbell was on the PDL Team of the Week announced June 1.
UP NEXT: Des Moines hosts the St. Louis Lions on Saturday, when the first 250 children (12 and under) will receive a Menace jersey sponsored by Scheels.
