Chris Hellmann (right) has stockpiled 15 goals and 11 assists in 21 PDL games over the last two seasons.
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Thursday, July 23, 2015 – Hat-trick hero Chris Hellmann is the Premier Development League Player of the Week, announced yesterday afternoon by the league office.
With three goals and two assists on Friday, Hellmann matched his season totals in the Menace’s record-breaking 10-0 home win over Chicago Fire U23. The victory emphatically sealed the Menace’s second straight Heartland Division championship
Joining Hellmann in receiving league honors this week are defenders Brett Lane and Lubos Kubik, who have received PDL Honorable Mention. In Saturday’s 3-0 season-finale win over Chicago, Lane assisted Kubik’s game-winner – the first PDL goal of Kubik’s career. They both went the full 90 minutes in securing the Menace’s ninth shutout of the season.
Hellmann, an all-PDL honoree a year ago for the Menace, is a native of Cologne, Germany who stars for NCAA Division-II champion Lynn (Fla.). This is his first league recognition this season. In 2014, he received three weekly accolades – one as Player of the Week (July 3) and two as honorable mention.
Lane is a Peoria, Ill., native who attends Southern Illinois – Edwardsville. Kubik – originally from Pardubice, Czech Republic – graduated from the Menace Academy and Des Moines Roosevelt. A four-year Menace veteran, Kubik attends California University of Pennsylvania.
Riding a franchise-record eight-game winning streak, Des Moines (11-2-1) is on its way to Michigan for the opening weekend of the Premier Development League Playoffs.
