On the soccer field, Jonny Macadam is known for his lightning speed, his immaculate footwork and his powerful finishes.
Macadam, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, returns for his third season in a Menace uniform – his fourth overall with the organization. After interning with the Menace last summer, he’s more than ready to step back on the pitch for the Premier Development League team.
“I needed an internship to graduate from Grand View,” Macadam said. “It was definitely frustrating to have to watch the games rather than play in them, but the Menace was the right fit for me. I had been involved with the team for a while, so it was an easy choice.”
The recent college grad has been in Des Moines since 2009, building an impressive resume and guiding the Vikings to national success. Macadam finished his college career with 119 points, accumulating 45 goals and 29 assists. The Vikings advanced to the NAIA’s round of eight in 2010 and 2011.
As a senior, Macadam was the 2013 Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and a member of the NAIA all-America third team. Bouncing back from an injury that sidelined him in 2012, Macadam guided Grand View to the top of the national rankings.
The Scotsman has made 10 appearances for the Menace – two in 2011 and eight in 2012. A year after working behind the scenes, he hopes to earn more playing time and collect the first goals of his PDL career.
