Iowans to debut for Menace women

 
 
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Tuesday, May 20, 2014 – Iowa natives are coming in full force to the Des Moines Menace women.
 
Head coach Kevin Schalk welcomes nine newcomers from the Hawkeye State. They join six Iowans who are among the side’s 13 returners, announced yesterday.
 
The 2014 Menace open the Women’s Premier Soccer League season on Saturday (May 24), facing the Minnesota TwinStars at 4 p.m. in Minnetrista, Minn.

Chelsea Cline
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: West Des Moines
College: UCLA (Los Angeles, Calif.; NCAA Division I)
2013 College Class: Graduate
 
In College: Finished career with 32 points (nine goals and 14 assists), including 13 points on four goals and five assists as a senior in 2012. Was named to the Pac-10 all-freshmen team in 2009, when UCLA advanced to the national semifinals. In 2010, played in three NCAA Tournament games, scoring two goals in a 5-0, second-round win over Kentucky. A member of the United States’ U15 and U17 national teams and a pool player on the U20 squad. Menace Academy product who is currently an assistant coach at AIB College of Business.
 
Samantha Fegen
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Waukee
College: Winona State (Winona, Minn.; NCAA Division II)
2013 College Class: Graduate
 
In College: Scored two goals in eight games in 2013, including a game-winner on Sept. 27 over Minot State. Totaled six assists and five goals during her career.
 
Marissa Hurt
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Hometown: Ankeny
College: Iowa (Iowa City, Iowa; NCAA Division I)
2013 College Class: Junior
 
In College: Was named to academic all-Big Ten team in 2012. Has played in 14 games.
 
Nicole Pearson
Position: Midfielder
Hometown: Urbandale
College: Simpson (Indianola, Iowa; NCAA Division III)
2013 College Class: Graduate
 
In College: Recorded 34 goals, the sixth most in Simpson history, and 15 assists for 83 points. One of only nine players to be named to the all-Iowa Conference first team four times (2008-2011). Simpson’s MVP in 2009 and 2011. Married to Jack Pearson, a Menace Academy coach who suited up for the Menace in 2009, 2010 and 2012.
 
Ashlie Stokes
Position: Forward
Hometown: Sioux City
College: Drake (Des Moines, Iowa; NCAA Division I)
2013 College Class: Junior
 
In College: Has 29 career points on 12 goals and five assists. In 2012, was named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Regional third team, the all-Midwest Valley Conference first team and the MVC Academic Honor Roll in 2012. In 2012, led the Valley with four game-winning goals.
 
Jordyn Thompson
Position: Forward
Hometown: Newton
College: Grand View (Des Moines, Iowa; NAIA
2013 College Class: Graduate
 
In College: Scored 24 goals on way to being named 2011 Midwest Collegiate Conference Player of the Year. Tallied 38 goals and seven assists over her career. Earned NAIA all-America honorable mention in 2011 and named to the MCC’s first team in 2011 and 2012.
 
Spencer Vasey
Position: Defender
Hometown: Johnston
College: Drake (Des Moines, Iowa; NCAA Division I)
2013 College Class: Junior
 
In College: Earned Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award and earned a spot on the MVC Academic Honor Roll in 2012. Appeared in 19 games in 2013.
 
Madelyn Vincent
