WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Friday, March 8, 2013 – Men’s and women’s soccer players are invited to try out for Iowa’s premier soccer teams next month.
The Des Moines Menace’s Premier Development League (men) and Women’s Premier Soccer League teams host open tryouts on Saturday, April 6 at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines.
The squads’ head coaches will lead the tryouts. Mike Jeffries will run the PDL tryout session, set for 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Kevin Schalk will head up the WPSL trial, set for 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.
Presented by Accelerated Rehabilitation Centers, the Menace Open Tryouts will be the only opportunity in 2013 for soccer players to see if they have what it takes to play for the Menace.
Registration is $80 for men and $25 for women; All participants receive a numbered shirt and should wear black shorts and black socks. Male trialists receive lunch.
The Menace PDL side opens the franchise’s 20th season on May 11 at Springfield (Mo.). The 2013 home opener is a May 18 doubleheader at Valley Stadium, pitting the Menace men (7:30 p.m.) and women (4:30 p.m.) against WSA Winnipeg.
ABOUT THE MENACE: The Des Moines Menace provides the highest level of soccer in Iowa. Entering its 20th season, the Menace men’s side competes in the 65-team United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League (PDL). After a successful 2012 debut, the Menace women have joined the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), which has more than 70 teams.
