Recapping Kick around the Clock

The High School Boys and High School Girls championships were settled by shootouts. This photo shows the Feb. 5 girls finale between Gateway City Blue (Sioux City) and eventual champ Cedar Falls.
The second annual Menace Kick around the Clock hosted 22 teams at Soccer House in West Des Moines last weekend. The tournament field -- double the inaugural event -- represented 15 communities across Iowa.

Thank you to all participants who made the event a fun success, and congratulations to our 2011 champions:
  • CRSA Black (Cedar Rapids) defeated the Arsenals (Grimes) in the U14 Coed final, which started at midnight Saturday (Feb. 5). On Super Bowl weekend, CRSA won by a football score, 7-3.
  • Happy Feet defeated the Menace Academy U16s in a High School Boys final between Des Moines teams late Saturday afternoon. The title was decided in a shootout after the 25-minute match ended in a 2-2 draw.
  • The Cedar Falls Tigers pulled out a shootout victory over Gateway City Blue (Sioux City) in the High School Girls championship. The teams battled to a scoreless tie in Saturday night's tourney finale.

Menace GM/Concessionaire Extraordinaire Todd Meiners; and interns Stepanie Grow, Jorie Shields-Smith, and Meredith Bernath.

The Menace plans to host the third annual Kick around the Clock back at Soccer House. The tentative dates for next year's tournament are Feb. 3-4, 2012.
